The Upsetters have partnered with Purple Moon Drama to provide a commission to one writer selected to appear in our debut show on 9th June 2019. We’re incredibly excited to announce the recipient of the Purple Moon Drama Commission is GAIL EGBESON.

Gail will be commissioned to develop her play JOLLOF COURT into a full length production. She will also receive mentoring and dramaturgy from Lakesha Arie-Angelo, the Associate Director at the Soho Theatre.

Lakesha has recently directed work included The Hoes (Hampstead Theatre) and Soft Animals (Soho Theatre) as well as writing Graveyard Gang which was performed at a Tamasha Scratch Night before being developed into a full length play with Purple Moon Drama.

JOLLOF COURT is a play which celebrates the differences and similarities between African cultures. It will be developed from the 20 minute short play which will be performed at the Bunker Theatre on the 9th June 2019 into a full length, large cast production. JOLLOF COURT will be produced by Purple Moon Drama in October 2019 to coincide with Black History Month. It will go on tour to reach young people around the country.
